Bill Clinton joins Democrats in describing Trump’s DACA decision by the same word

Former President Bill Clinton released a statement Tuesday that mirrored the narrative pushed by other Democrats about President Donald Trump’s decision to end DACA. Clinton joined the chorus in describing the act as “cruel.”

He released the statement via his official social media account.

These young people’s dreams are part of the American Dream. And they make it more real for all of us.9:42 PM – Sep 5, 2017

“DACA has brought hundreds of thousands of young people out of the shadows,” Clinton wrote, “allowing them to live without fear, go to school, work, and contribute to America in countless other ways. These young people’s dreams are part of the American Dream. And they make it more real for all of us.”

DACA is short for “Deferred Action on Childhood Arrivals,” the program instituted via executive action by former President Barack Obama in 2012 to provide temporary amnesty from deportation to those who were brought to the country illegally as children.

“Today’s decision by the White House to terminate DACA — and that is effectively what it attempts to do — will crush their dreams and weaken the American Dream for the rest of us,” he added.

“It’s wrong because it’s bad policy that solves no pressing problem and raises new ones,” he continued. “It’s wrong because it’s irresponsible, passing the buck instead of offering sensible solutions for immigration reform. Most of all, it’s wrong because it’s cruel to send these young people to places many of them have never lived and do not know. For them this is home. The United States is their home.”

“Instead of punishing them,” Clinton added, “we should find ways to openly embrace them and to empower them to make their own contributions, as previous generations of immigrants have done.”

“Congress should act immediately to protect their status and pave the way for their future and America’s future,” he concluded.

President Trump announced Tuesday that he would end DACA, but many immigration enforcement advocates were unhappy with the decision because he allowed six months for Congress to pass legislation to enshrine the amnesty into law.

Democrats, meanwhile, seem uniform in their narrative that the decision was “cruel.” Former Vice President Joe Biden tweeted, “Brought by parents, these children had no choice in coming here. Now they’ll be sent to countries they’ve never known. Cruel. Not America.”

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) appeared to begin the torrent of “cruel” commentary on Monday. Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) also called it cruel, as did Rep. Jackie Speier (D-Calif.).

Obama used the word as well in his statement released on Facebook. “It is self-defeating,” he wrote, “because they want to start new businesses, staff our labs, serve in our military, and otherwise contribute to the country we love. And it is cruel.”

It is estimated that 800,000 illegal aliens received amnesty from DACA, and their future now depends on the ability of members of Congress to draft legislation and pass it.
